It has been anything but pleasant for actor Jonathan Majors since his assault case began. On Tuesday, Jonathan Majors was due to be in court for his first hearing, but the Creed III star appeared for the case via Zoom. According to reports, the Hollywood star is facing misdemeanor assault and harassment charges after he allegedly assaulted and strangled his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. While Majors denied any wrongdoings, the actor may bag some jail time if the court finds him guilty.
Majors’ Appears for His First Court Hearing
On Tuesday, the first of possibly many hearings for the Jonathan Majors assault case was held. Although the actor wasn’t in court, he made himself available via Zoom. During the conference, Judge Rachel S. Pauley addressed a motion filed by Majors’ defense team, which the prosecution has until May 23 to respond to. At the discussion, Judge Pauley fixed the Lovecraft Country star’s next court hearing date. She stressed the importance of Jonathan Majors being in court on that date. According to Pauley, if the actor failed to appear, the court could issue a warrant for his arrest in 48 hours. The judge also urged Majors to be in constant contact with his lawyers, as she would not like to see him arrested.
While the judge made no big decision regarding Jonathan Majors’ assault case, the actor’s lawyer Priya Chaudhry was displeased with the hearing. She published a statement to TMZ afterward, slamming Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for fixing the case in the accuser’s favor. According to Chaudhry, Bragg chose to keep the case running even though there was alleged evidence that exonerated Majors.
Majors’ lawyer also accused Bragg of changing “the charge to fit Jabbari’s new lies.” She claimed to have provided the DA with a video that proved Jabbari was lying. However, it was swept under the carpet, and the “false case” continued. Chaudhry then described the case as a “witch hunt” against Majors’, adding that the DA and prosecution’s bias was racially motivated. In addition, the lawyer claimed her client was the victim, noting that Jabbari had assaulted Majors on various occasions. However, she said the defense was skeptical about handing in evidence as the DA would tell the plaintiff, and she would change her story. The prosecution is yet to respond to Chaudhry’s claims.
Details of Jonathan Majors’ Assault Case, Arrest, and Charges
On March 25, 2023, the police responded to a 911 call inside an apartment in Manhattan. Upon arrival, the authorities saw a 30-year-old woman with minor injuries on her neck and head. According to the police, the woman claimed Majors had assaulted and strangled her. Afterward, authorities took her to the hospital while they arrested Majors, though he regained his freedom on the same day.
Two days later, the DA’s office confirmed Majors faced various charges. They include several counts of third-degree assault, one count of second-degree aggravated harassment, three counts of third-degree attempted assault, and one count of second-degree harassment. The next few months will be tough for the actor, but his fans, friends, and family remain behind him. However, amid Jonathan Majors’ assault case, the actor’s future in Hollywood remains uncertain. Only time will tell what eventually happens.
