Justin Timberlake‘s DWI on Tuesday, June 18, in Sag Harbor is taking an interesting turn for the singer. New details have emerged that reveal there could be more to the Cry Me A River hitmaker’s ‘tough week’ than meets the eye.
Just as Justin Timberlake was leaving the Hamptons hotel, where he and a group of friends had a late dinner and drinks, an anonymous call was made to the Sag Harbor police department. This mysterious tipster, concerned for Justin‘s safety, alerted the authorities about his potential drunk driving.
The New York Post reports that the mystery caller, who chooses to remain anonymous, stated, “Justin was having a lot of drinks, and they told the cop to watch him if he is going to drive,” said the well-connected Southampton restaurateur, who did not want to be identified.
When Justin Timberlake left the establishment, he jumped into his gray 2025 BMW and was immediately stopped by a young police officer. The officer then cut Justin Timberlake a break by warning. He suggested that the singer not to drive and to find another means of transportation home. However, Timberlake ignored the friendly warning and was arrested minutes after the same officer stopped him for blowing through a stop sign.
Justin Timberlake Claims He Was ‘Barely Drinking’
Justin Timberlake’s night went from bad to worse in a matter of moments. When Justin was stopped, the police report stated his eyes were very bloodshot, and he reeked of alcohol. Despite the physical signs, Justin claimed he was barely drinking and had only consumed one martini before his arrest. The singer also failed the field sobriety test and refused a breathalyzer and chemical test three times.
He was transported to the Sag Harbor police station, where he spent the night. The following day, his attorney, Edward Burke, bailed him out of jail. Burke later issued a statement revealing that he and Mr. Timberlake planned to fight all charges.
Another source reportedly defended Justin Timberlake, stating they believed the singer was ‘mistreated.’ He also seemingly made excuses for Justin’s lapse in judgment.
“Everyone drives through that stop sign when no one is there,” the source claimed, noting that Timberlake, a 10-time Grammy winner and married dad of two young boys, was a “Hamptons regular” who has frequented his establishments “many times” over the years.
“He was always a gentleman,” the restaurateur said of the star. “People always recognize him, and they ask him for a picture, and he always says yes. He has the hat pulled down and the sunglasses, so it’s hard to recognize him, but some people do.”
Justin Timberlake recently broke his silence about his arrest during his Chicago concert. He admitted he had a tough week, which included personal and professional challenges. He thanked fans for their love and support. Justin and his lawyer are due back in court on July 26.
