Justin Timberlake might have put his DWI arrest behind him, but he is far from being off the hook. Following his arrest in June, the singer took a plea deal for a lesser charge last week. Timberlake pled guilty to Driving While Ability Impaired, which is a slap on the wrist compared to his initial charge. However, sources believe his escape from true justice will only make things worse in the long run.
Despite an embarrassing arrest, Timberlake allegedly refused to admit he made a mistake by driving after consuming alcohol. It wasn’t until he was presented with the favorable plea deal that he decided to take some responsibility. “This is a case of Justin’s Type-A, never-back-down personality getting the best of him and causing real damage,” the source told Radar Online. Despite his close circle urging him to admit guilt and apologize immediately after the incident, he refused and kept deflecting. An example was when he made light of his arrest during the Boston stop of his tour. The informant explained:
“This kind of behavior really speaks to the dark side of his personality. He’s a guy who loves a fight, even when he should know it’s a losing battle.”
The source further added, “This arrest has already spoiled some of his career plans – and now his overzealous defense is on the verge of absolutely destroying his reputation. There are a lot of people begging Justin to not go down this road.”
Justin Timberlake Blasted For Jimmy Fallon Appearance
Timberlake eventually did the right thing, taking responsibility during his press conference after his sentencing. “I found myself in a position where I could have made a different decision, but I’ve had some time to reflect on that,” he said to the media. “This is a mistake that I made.” Unfortunately, his acceptance of guilt has done nothing to redeem his image.
On Monday, the 43-year-old made his first talk show appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon since his plea deal. However, his presence only spun more criticism from fans who didn’t like that he didn’t even mention his arrest. One fan bashed, “Justin Timberlake being on Jimmy Fallon with no shame and getting off with basicly a parking ticket is privilege at it’s finest!!” Another comment read, “Would have been boss had he mentioned the dui. Just own it.” A third disappointed fan wrote, “Sad he had a chance to address it but refused to remind a national audience to not drink & drive but did not.” Just like the source predicted, Timberlake seems to be leaving a sour taste in fans’ mouths with his every move.
