Most parents definitely don’t want their kids stumbling across porn, and one Kansas mom is far from pleased about it. Allegedly, her underage son accessed multiple porn sites, including Jerkmate and Chaturbate, on an old laptop he found. When she discovered what had happened, she was furious, so much so that she’s now suing the platforms for failing to enforce Kansas’ age verification laws.
According to reports, her son had the laptop for two months before she found out, and in that time, he visited various porn sites 185 times. The mother, who’s remaining anonymous as “Jane Doe” in legal filings, argues that these sites violated state laws by not properly verifying users’ ages. Her son is referred to only as “Q.R.” in court documents.
If the judge sides with her, the payout could be massive. Each visit to a porn site could count as a separate violation of age verification and consumer protection laws, potentially adding up to tens of thousands of dollars per instance, meaning millions in total damages.
Many people who came across the story online found the lawsuit absurd. One user commented, “‘Jane Doe’ because it’s a frivolous lawsuit, like that guy who didn’t say he was allergic to onions. This is just ambulance chasing with confidence.”
Others argued that it is the mother’s responsibility to actually parent her son and monitor his internet use, not the job of porn sites. Some pointed out that these platforms already have age gates in place to prevent minors from accessing content.
One Redditor wrote, “What the hell? That’s HER responsibility. My kids have their own Wi-Fi at home, and I have it filtered to the gods. I also have age restrictions on every device they use. I’m tired of parents who give their kids unrestricted internet access and then cry about what they see. Parent your child.”
Some users suggested that the teen might not have intentionally visited those adult websites at all. One commenter pointed out that he could have been trying to watch pirated anime or TV shows on third-party streaming sites, which are often filled with adult pop-ups. A Redditor explained, “It’s possible the teen wasn’t even deliberately going to Chaturbate that often. He might have been watching anime on sketchy streaming sites where pop-ups for sites like Chaturbate show up constantly.”
One user even went as far as to accuse the Kansas mother of not genuinely caring about her son. They claimed the lawsuit wasn’t about protecting him, but rather about chasing a potential payout. According to the commenter, the real motivation behind the case was the possibility of winning big money from the adult websites.
