Kanye ‘Ye’ West credited his wife, Bianca Censori, for helping correct a longstanding notion about his mental health status. The rapper discussed his famous bipolar diagnosis in his new interview with Justin Laboy yesterday. Kanye “Ye” West previously alluded to being bipolar nearly six years ago in a Netflix interview with David Letterman.
Ye clarified that his actual mental health condition is autism and not bipolar disorder, as he previously claimed. The producer credited his wife for helping him make the vital discovery by encouraging him to consult a specialist. The push from Censori came after she picked up patterns in his behavior that did not align with bipolar. The rapper said:
“Something about your personality doesn’t feel like it’s bipolar. I’ve seen bipolar before, I’ve seen ‘she is educated,’ so I’ve seen bipolar before and come to find out it’s really a case of autism that I have.”
The rapper noted that he made the public feel he had the disorder because the doctors diagnosed him. Ye added that his diagnosis does not let him give in to people trying to control him. Since receiving his new diagnosis, Ye noted that he has stayed off meds in order to protect his creativity. The artist believes witnessing his rants is his fans’ sacrifice to keep witnessing his creativity.
Social Media’s Reaction to Kanye West’s New Diagnosis
The rapper sparked controversy alongside Censori on music’s biggest night. The former Yeezy architect set tongues wagging for flashing her private part in a sheer outfit on the carpet. The rapper allegedly instructed his wife to take off the fur coat and cause a scene. Following his latest reveal, internet users had a few things to say.
One fan insisted the rapper was okay, noting that people labeled him because they did not understand him. Another commenter noted that everyone self-diagnoses and uses whatever as a personality trait. Ye has been open about his mental health struggles since breaking into the industry. The rapper was hospitalized in 2016 and appeared on Letterman’s “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.”
Kanye West’s Openness About His Bipolar Disorder
Per EOnline in the 2019 interview, Ye noted that he got his diagnosis in 2014. He likened having the illness to suffering from a split personality. Ye continued that he understood his struggle because he was a Gemini. Ye emphasized that one can become more adolescent in expression or border into places. In a thoughtful reflection, he stressed that some concepts are complex and require time to comprehend fully.
He explained how societal views have evolved, including acceptable behaviors such as isolation are now tagged problematic. Ye acknowledged the challenges he faces in maintaining his creative energy. He declared that innovative ideas and desired music could emerge from a mind deemed a bit “crazy.” The father-of-four shared that he was beginning to research their experiences related to episodes that may lead to hospitalization.
He expressed a desire to address a particular moment that needs change, sharing their intention to discuss it publicly. During his bipolar episodes, Ye recalled feeling an overwhelming sense of hyperparanoia that affected their perception of others. He acknowledged that experiences may vary, emphasizing the significance of his journey and the need for change in handling situations.
Will Kanye ‘Ye’ West handle his new diagnosis differently this time?
