Kate Gosselin is a celebrity who rose to fame thanks to reality TV. She and her ex-husband Jon Gosselin became famous thanks to their show Jon & Kate Plus 8. The series chronicled the couple raising twin and sextuplets. But things weren’t great in the household with the mom of eight being dubbed as overbearing. Kate’s parenting skills continued to come under criticism after the show’s cancellation. Her estrangement from son Collin Gosselin, and treatment of him painted her in a bad light.
Collin is one of the Gosselin sextuplets along with Hannah, Alexis, Leah, Joel, and Aaden. He also has older twin sisters Cara and Mady. After their parents divorced in 2009, the children lived with Kate, but in 2016, things began to change.
The reality TV mom had her son institutionalized for behavioral issues. Two years later, Collin was released and went to live with his father, who was granted custody of him and Hannah.
Since then, he has had no contact with his mother, but her actions still impact his life.
Collin Gosselin Was Discharged From the Marines Because of Kate Gosselin
Like many 20-year-olds, Collin is planning for his future. The young man had his heart set on becoming a United States Marine. He was close to achieving his dream until the military began looking into his past.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Collin revealed his discharge from the Marines.
I was discharged. I was towards the end of training, very close to graduating. The paperwork was looked into, and they found out that I was, in fact, in an institution at one point in my life.
And see, they don’t need any deeper reason. Being in an institution, that’s good enough for [them] to discharge [you].
Despite this setback, he isn’t giving up in his dream to be a Marine and plans to appeal the decision.
He also opened up the day his mother had him institutionalized.
I didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t know where I was going. That was the most scared I’ve probably ever been in my life. I didn’t even say goodbye [to my siblings].
During his two years at the facility, Collin claims Kate Gosselin “only came to visit me once.” This visit was anything but supportive as his mom berated him destroying the family. It was at that moment, he knew the real reason his mother had him institutionalized. “I was sent away for my mother to protect her reputation.”
Collin’s interview adds more damaging evidence to Kate Gosselin’s parenting skills. The star has often been criticized for putting fame before family, and this sadly might be the case.
