Kate Gosselin and Collin Gosselin won’t be reconciling anytime soon after his recent allegations. The reality TV mom and her son have been estranged since 2016, when she had him institutionalized for behavioral problems. However, Collin has gone on record to say he is a victim of Kate’s abuse. In a new interview with The Sun, the young man reveals the extent of his mother’s emotional and physical torment.
One thing fans noticed during Jon & Kate Plus 8 is Kate’s treatment of Collin. She didn’t show him nearly as much love and attention as the other kids. She also often ignored or punished him when she felt he was needy.
The 20-year-old revealed to the news outlet how he was treated differently from his siblings.
I was 100% treated differently [than my siblings]. I was isolated and I was taken away from them and I didn’t eat dinners with my family.
I didn’t get to play or hang out with my siblings. I didn’t have a childhood with them and I never really had a relationship with them growing up.
Kate’s abuse of her son took a physical turn when she locked him in a room in a basement. The room had only a mattress and cameras so she could keep an eye on her son. She even went to drastic measures to keep him confined.
And when my mother would put me in that room multiple times, she had zip-tied my hands and feet together and bolt locked the door, turned the lights off and had cameras there just watching me.
Book Author Says Collin Gosselin’s Abuse Claims Against Kate Gosselin Are Believable
Collin tried many times to tell his teachers about his mother’s abuse. But when Kate got word of her son’s plan, she pulled him out of school. She then had him committed to a medical facility, claiming he exhibited “unpredictable and violent behavior.”
In 2018, Collin was released from the facility and lived with his father, Jon Gosselin, and his sister, Hannah Gosselin.
Since then, the trio has gone public about life with Kate. Collin’s new claims about his mom’s abuse further paint her in a negative light. However, one author thinks the allegations shouldn’t be dismissed.
Polly Kahl, author of Jon and Kate Plus Eight: ‘Reality’ TV & the Selling of the Gosselins, believes Collin’s claims may be true. In an interview with NewsNation, Kahl, a licensed counselor, discussed the family’s latest drama.
Collin was on the show for many years and there was never any evidence of him behaving badly on the show. I think that he was treated badly, and any bad behavior he had was probably a result of him being treated differently from the other children.
As for Kate’s allegations that Collin was violent, Kahl replied:
She implies that he’s violent and a danger to other people and animals. Even if that were true, no prescription would include locking a child in a secluded area and zip-tying their hands and feet together.
Kahl believes being on the show and his mother’s abuse hurt Collin’s self-esteem.
He got a lesson over a period of time that he was not as worthy…not as loved as much, and didn’t deserve…good treatment, as well as his siblings did.
