Katy Perry‘s Lifetimes tour hasn’t even begun, but it’s already sparked controversy. After photos surfaced of her VIP merch this week, fans called out the “Woman’s World” singer for seemingly including Temu products as part of her VIP package. The criticism stems from a pair of glasses that appear to look identical to ones found on the online marketplace.
Fans React to Katy Perry’s VIP Merch
The drama began when fans shared photos of Katy Perry’s VIP merch on social media. Since her Lifetimes tour will kick off soon, it seems those who bought the pop star’s VIP packages received emails telling them to claim their merchandise. The products include a watch, necklace, and sunglasses. While many found the first two cute, they didn’t love the shades.
According to a screenshot, the “limited-edition” sunglasses are described as “sleek, high-fashion shades.” They’re advertised to include a microfiber cloth and a “high-quality sunglasses case crafted from premium vegan materials.”
Despite its description, fans think they look cheap. One person said they were “giving Spy Kids,” referencing the 2001 kids movie. Another fan joked, “OKAY TEMUUUUUUU,” implying they thought the sunglasses looked like something anyone can get online.
It’s possible they’re not wrong. After doing some digging, fans discovered a nearly identical pair of sunglasses on Temu being sold for just $1.68. Although it’s not confirmed that the ones featured in Katy Perry’s VIP package are the same pair from the online marketplace, fans are still frustrated over the similarities. They spent hundreds of dollars on Perry’s VIP packages. So, they feel they deserve merchandise of better quality.
“They ARE the same glasses with a KP logo scanned onto them,” one person claimed after seeing side-by-side photos of the glasses. “They even used the same stock photo,” another said. “This is beyond embarrassing,” read another comment.
The ‘Lifetimes’ Tour Is Just on the Horizon
Katy Perry’s Lifetimes tour will kick off next month in Mexico. She’ll have seven concerts across Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadelajara before taking her tour to the U.S. Perry will perform in cities like Chicago, Minneapolis, and Dallas. Afterward, she’ll head to Australia before returning to the U.S. for even more shows. Other countries she’ll visit on her Lifetimes tour include Canada, Argentina, Brazil, England, Germany, and France, among many others.
The tour comes following her seventh studio album, 143. It also marks Perry’s first trek around the world in seven years. The last time she toured was in 2017 and 2018 in support of her Witness album.
Perry’s life has changed so much since then. Apart from getting engaged to actor Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry has become a mother. The couple welcomed a daughter named Daisy Dove Bloom in August 2020. During a recent interview with Billboard, the singer revealed she’ll bring her daughter to a few tour stops. While her child would love to visit her on the road more often, Perry said Daisy will need to focus on school in the fall.
Thankfully, the mother-daughter duo won’t be apart for long. Perry’s Lifetimes tour will conclude in November, meaning she’ll return home just a few months into the new school year.
