Katy Perry‘s Jingle Ball set didn’t go as expected. Over the weekend, the “Woman’s World” singer took the stage at Madison Square Garden as part of the annual holiday concert hosted by Z100NewYork. She was the final act of the night. While most of the crowd stayed to watch her entire performance, many people ditched. Instead of ignoring it, Perry addressed the awkward incident by making jokes. The moment has since gone viral on TikTok.
In the viral clip, several concertgoers are seen making their way out of the venue while Katy Perry’s Jingle Ball performance is still going on. The fan recording the video first pans across the floor to show the empty gaps in the audience. Afterward, they scan the upper seating area, which also begins to empty as fans gradually leave their seats.
The incident caused a bit of a commotion during Katy Perry’s Jingle Ball set. The popstar didn’t let it get to her, however. She took it in stride by poking fun at the crowd for leaving early. “I know, I know, it’s crazy. It’s so late, it’s so cold outside. You had way too much sugar,” she said.
Perry then took the opportunity to reference some of her “Hot N Cold” lyrics. “You don’t know whether to stay or go, or be in or out, or hot or cold. Just make up your mind then!” she added.
Why Did Fans Leave Katy Perry’s Jingle Ball Performance Early?
Although she was just teasing, Katy Perry was actually right about why some people ditched her set. Since the annual Z100NewYork concert went on so late, fans had to leave early in order to catch the final trains in New York City. If they had decided to stay, they likely would have been forced to find some other means of getting back home, like calling an Uber, which would have been more pricey. So, while fans may have not wanted to disrespect Perry by walking out, some people had no choice. “I was so mad because I had to leave after her third song and had to go make my train,” one fan wrote on TikTok.
Meanwhile, some fans who drove to the concert had another reason for not staying until the end of Katy Perry’s Jingle Ball performance. “We had a two hour drive back upstate,” one person said. “It was the show’s end and no one wanted to be in traffic,” read another comment.
Other artists who performed during the annual Z100NewYork holiday concert included Tate McCrae, Twenty One Pilots, Teddy Swims, and Meghan Trainor.
