Katy Perry was part of the historic Blue Origin’s first all-female space crew, which took off at 7 a.m. CT on Monday, 14 April. Ahead of the launch, she sent a tweet signifying that she may have been nervous to embark on the space voyage, causing her fans to spiral.
Perry teamed up with Gayle King, Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez, and three other women on the ‘Taking Up Space Crew.’ The launch occurred in West Texas as part of Blue Origin’s New Shepherd program.
Before taking off, the Roar singer tweeted, “I LOVE YOU,” causing fans to speculate that she was having second thoughts. Upon arrival at the launch site, Perry was captured dressed in a blue space suit, looking somewhat unsettled as they prepared to launch. As seen in a viral photo from the launch, she clasped her hands together and looked nervously to the side at the camera in her face.
Social media users reacted to Perry’s final tweet before the launch, pointing out that she looked scared. One person encouraged her to ditch the trip by commenting, “Katy, it’s not too late to go home.”
Another added, “She looks terrified.” This user noted, “I’d look like that too if I was going to space.” A fourth comment read, “She looks extremely nervous!“
Other users expressed concern about the singer’s journey, asking when she was expected to return to Earth and hoping “it all goes well.”
Katy Perry Dreamt Of Going To Space 15 Years Ago
Despite the look of nerves, Katy Perry initially showed excitement about the space mission hours before launch. In a video shared on Instagram, she admitted to dreaming of going to space for 15 years. The former American Idol judge gave a tour of her capsule, which she had been training for the last few days.
“I think I’m gonna sing in space – I’ve got to sing in space,” she gushed. “We are the ‘taking up space crew’… I’m not going to say I can’t believe I’m here because I can, and I think if you believe in your dreams, that’s actually how you make them come true!”
Perry previously admitted that she had to undergo some psychological preparation to become brave enough to go to space. “I am talking to myself every day and going, ‘You’re brave, you’re bold, you are doing this for the next generation to inspire so many different people but especially young girls to go,” she shared, per Daily Mail. Clearly, the preparation paid off!
Luckily for all fans concerned, Perry’s trip only lasted a few minutes, and the all-female Taking Up Space Crew is back to Earth after making history!
