Unfortunately, racism is still alive and well in just about all parts of the country. What’s worse is that there seems to be a growing number of people who deem it appropriate to do or say horrendous things in broad daylight in front of others. One college student in Bowling Green, Kentucky, recounted a moment when a white man threatened his life without any reason. Regardless of what generation you’re from or what your background is, there should never be room for racism.
The above video shows a man named Malachi telling a story of something that happened to him earlier in the day. He talks about how an older white man put a knife to his throat and threatened his life with a shotgun in Bowling Green, Kentucky. To make matters worse, the white man was calling him racial slurs the entire time.
Just before explaining what happened to him, Malachi prefaces the story by saying that he doesn’t want people to think he is ‘playing the victim.’ This is a term used to describe individuals detailing an account of something bad happening to them in exchange for sympathy in both financial and emotional forms.
“Pls don’t apologize for being shook up. I hope you get the justice you deserve” – Sam
Many people might label his telling the story as a ‘victim mentality,’ even though he filed a police report. No one should ever be made to feel as though their negative experiences are not worth sharing. Spreading awareness about something that could potentially happen to anyone is very important.
Fortunately, Malachi escaped the situation unharmed, but it’s a memory that he will carry with him for a lifetime. Hopefully, the police report leads to the actual apprehension of this man so that he can’t attempt to do the same to anyone else in the Bowling Green area.
