President Trump has been on a streak of upsetting Americans and the rest of the world since his recent arrival in office, and Canada is currently on his hit list. Sparking a trade war with massive tariffs of 25% tax, Trump has forced the hand of multiple stores across Canada, causing them to boycott American products. One product that is taking a big hit “worse than a tariff” is Jack Daniel’s, and Kentucky residents are furious about the unfair situation.
In a post on r/AskReddit asking Kentucky locals about how they feel about “the trade war with Canada in view of the boycott,” the top commenter reveals how they lost their job at a distillery due to Trump’s “ridiculous” decision. “This is a really REALLY bad time for the tariffs to hit,” they exclaim, explaining how the end of the bourbon boom trend in 2025 and Trump’s presidency are “why layoffs are going wild in Kentucky.” They conclude that the whole situation is “harmful and hurts good working class people everywhere, and we deserve better.”
Thousands of Redditors upvoted the unfortunate Kentuckian’s comment, adding that “the repercussions to this stupidity will last for a long time.” Not to mention, many Canadians are outraged at Trump’s comments about their country being a “51st state,” and as a likely result, “a lot of Canadians will stay away from US products for years to come.” Another top commenter remarks how a Trump-supporting coworker claims that he’s “not really into that kind of stuff and don’t really research politics.” Such is the probable case for many ignorant Americans who voted for their Republican candidate. “All of my coworkers are MAGA Trumpanzees, and they act like nothing’s happening,” confirms another.
Another lifetime Kentucky resident and logistics manager states that the tariffs on Canada are “going to screw over our economy big time.” They predict the revenue drop from imports will affect “the revenue generated by the international traffic at Worldport” in Louisville. “People will absolutely be affected by this decision, and far sooner than we expect,” they remark.
Hundreds of other commenters also put in their two cents, agreeing that Trump’s move to insult and punish Canada will have grave results not only for his own supporters but for many hard-working Americans.
That said, it’s completely understandable why Canada is looking to cut ties economically and politically with the US. As the logistics manager above said: “What Trump and Musk have done is wholly unforgivable and downright shameful. They’re an embarrassment to the American people.”
