Kentucky Resident Says New Neighbor Started Littering Cigarette Butts Everywhere Within Days of Moving In: ‘There Goes the Neighborhood’

Just four days after his new neighbors moved in, one Kentucky resident started to notice cigarette butts multiplying around the property. Living in a townhouse complex, you’d think little bits of trash would be a common sight, but that isn’t the case for Reddit user RandomBloke2021. “I’m a clean person, so I immediately see them,” he wrote in his r/mildlyinfuriating post. He added that he puts in effort to keep the area around his home clean, so cigarette butts suddenly popping up everywhere wasn’t a welcome change.

Random Bloke says the trash comes from one person: the mother of the new couple that recently moved into his townhouse. The family is apparently friendly, but that doesn’t help when he sees cigarette butts constantly appearing everywhere, despite his alleged efforts to be a good neighbor. “The mom is a chain smoker and walks up and down the same path I go walking my dog,” he explained. While her smoking doesn’t bother him, her littering does.

Others Do Their Part Keeping the Neighborhood Clean, But Not This New Neighbor

Some Redditors accused Random Bloke of overreacting, but he pointed out that one neighbor owns a dog and picks up after it. Another neighbor also smokes but throws away their butts into a bucket. On the flip side, this new neighbor smokes throughout the day but doesn’t seem to mind that someone else has to pick up after her: that’s what grinds Random Bloke’s gears.

Fortunately for him, plenty of people in the comments do get it. “It’s wild how big segments of society just don’t think of butts as litter,” sighed a user. “There goes the neighborhood,” remarked another. “Gather them up and dump them on their front doorstep,” demanded a third.

Random Bloke mentioned that he plans to have a friendly chat with the new neighbors and point out that cigarette butts lying everywhere aren’t helping his job keeping the place clean.

Even so, the couple’s mom certainly didn’t leave a good first impression, for him or anyone else on the internet. It’s as one commenter points out: “This is one of those things that immediately puts someone in a certain category for me that I will never be able to unfeel no matter how nice they are to me.”
