Kevin Costner and Princess Diana may have been from different worlds, but the pair had a good relationship. The late Princess of Wales had a crush on the Hollywood icon. In an interview with People, published on June 18, Costner revealed how he found out about Diana’s undisclosed affection. It was during a chat between Kevin Costner and Prince William in England a decade ago. “I happened to be in England, and I got this message that the prince would love to talk, and I said, ‘What?’ … and then I went, ‘Okay,” he told the outlet.
When Kevin Costner and Prince William finally met in a room, the first thing the 42-year-old spoke about was how Diana felt about the movie star. “He walked up to me, and we shook hands… The first line out of his mouth was, ‘You know, my mom kind of fancied you,'” the actor recalled. Costner explained that William’s revelation was shocking, as he couldn’t believe Diana could have feelings for someone like him. Surprisingly, fifteen years earlier, Kevin Costner and Princess Diana were in contact about collaborating on a sequel to The Bodyguard. He clarified that Sarah Ferguson set him up with William’s mother.
The former Yellowstone star said the Duchess of York didn’t mind setting him up despite her status. “It was so sweet. Sarah was the one who set this up. Sarah was very cool… when she could have been going, ‘Well, I’m a princess too. What about me?’ She didn’t. She said, ‘I’m going to make this happen, Kev,’ and she did,” Costner revealed. He began talks with Diana about collaborating on the sequel of his 1992 hit film. Kevin Costner said Princess Diana was sweet about it and agreed to put in her all. Unfortunately, the Princess of Wales passed away in 1997, and the producer never went forward with the development. Costner shared that the Royal Family learned about their conversation after Diana’s demise, and things got ugly. But with Ferguson’s help, he handled the situation appropriately.
