Kevin Costner‘s going through a lot of trouble recently, but rumor has it’s not all his fault. The former Yellowstone star has been making headlines recently for his divorce from Christine Baumgartner, his wife of 18 years. Her request for divorce definitely seemed to come out of left field, taking not only the public but also Costner himself by surprise. Baumgartner cited “irreconcilable differences” when the divorce papers were finalized last month, and while Costner’s going along with the divorce, new sources have said that he wasn’t given much of a chance to patch things over with his now-ex-wife.
When news of Kevin Costner’s divorce first broke, nearly everybody was shocked. The Yellowstone actor was reportedly blindsided by the news that Baumgartner wanted to end their 18-year marriage. Although he was “overwhelmed with sadness” at the news, he still agreed to various settlements as the couple hashed out who would get the kids, the house, and the money, among other things. The world is calling it an amicable split, but there might be more going on under the surface than we know.
Kevin Costner Wishes He Could Have “Worked Things Out” With Ex-Wife
From the very beginning, Kevin Costner never seemed like he was feeling positive about his divorce in any way. Way back in September of last year, deep in the trenches of divorce proceedings, Costner went on record saying that divorce was “a horrible place to be” and that it felt “so bad.”
Kevin Costner never publicly pointed any fingers at Christine Baumgartner, but given what he has said, it’s not hard to guess who wanted the divorce in the first place. She cited “irreconcilable differences” in the official paperwork and was spotted with the couple’s former friend, Josh Connor, 49, about a month after the divorce. According to sources close to Kevin Costner, he would have attempted to fix things between himself and Christine Baumgartner, but the tight timeline means he wasn’t really given a chance.
“She didn’t really give Kevin an opportunity to try and fix things. It was very painful but I believe Kevin’s moved on…He wished they could have worked things out.”

The same source said that Costner saw how quickly Baumgartner moved on after they split, calling her actions “hurtful” but adding that he’s mostly moved on since then. Rumors have floated around that Kevin Costner’s dated some of his co-workers since the split, but the general consensus is that he’s focusing on his work. In terms of family relationships, he’s still close to his kids and would like a relationship with Christine, but she’s shut him out, and no one’s sure why.
