In the last few years, Kevin Smith has gone from a comic book nerd that appears in, writes, and directors goofy, low budget films, to a legitimate presence in the entertainment world. On top of a few feature films, he has even directed multiple episodes of DC’s Arrowverse CW shows The Flash and Supergirl.
But what is next? Something huge apparently.
Recently, Smith posted on social media that he just finished writing for a gig that
“Just finished a huge writing gig that I haven’t talked about publicly yet,” Smith wrote. “It’s the most massive IP I’ve ever been allowed to play with and if the powers that be decide to move forward with the project, it would be the biggest budgeted anything I’ve ever done. Wish me luck…”
DCEU films have always been known for having massive budgets – with Batman vs Superman clocking in at $300 million – so that is one box checked. Like we mentioned earlier, Smith has always had a good relationship with DC as well.
Alongside directing those Arrowverse episodes, Smith has served as a writer for multiple DC Comics, including Batman and Green Arrow. Just a few days ago, Smith stated on the Fat Man on Batman podcast that he thought Mr. Freeze deserved a stand-alone film.
Other speculation has arisen as well, with future Star Wars and Marvel projects as front-runners. One of the more interesting ideas is that Smith would replace James Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3. Honestly though, that seems entirely unlikely given that he said that he has been writing for the gig for a bit and has been waiting to talk about it.
What do you think the news will be? Will it be a DCEU film? Or is it simply a random movie that Smith managed to get a big budget for? Be sure to leave your comments below!
