Khloe Kardashian is no stranger to opening up about her life. The Good American founder often shares very personal details on her family’s reality TV series. Unfortunately, it seems that she’s had to address some heartbreaking issues in the past. One of those things is the end of her marriage to former NBA star Lamar Odom. Now, Kardashian is reflecting on that time in her life and revealing the moment that finally made her realize that her marriage was officially over.
On the latest episode of her Khloe in Wonderland podcast, the reality star spoke with guest Mel Robbins. The duo discussed many different topics. However, one of the heavier points of conversation revolved around Kardashian’s marriage to Lamar Odom.
Khloe Kardashian admitted to Mel Robbins that the end of her marriage was very difficult. At the time, Odom was deep into addiction. However, she admitted that whenever he was obligated to play basketball, he would be more motivated, and his substance abuse wouldn’t be as bad.
Kardashian said that the final straw eventually came when she begged Odom to join the Team USA basketball team in hopes of keeping him clean. However, he was unwilling to do so. Instead, she had an epiphany that eventually led to the couple’s divorce.
Khloe Kardashian Opens Up About Tough Lamar Odom Divorce
“I remember, I was married and my ex-husband had a drug addiction. And I knew that his addiction always heightened — he was in the NBA — and his addiction always heightened when he was in the off-season, cause idle time is the devil’s playground,” Kardashian told Robbins.
“And so I remember he was asked to go to Team USA, if I remember correctly, and I was begging, ‘Please, please go to Team USA,’ and I was pushing, and I remember he just looked at me and said, ‘You can’t want it more than I do,’” she continued.
“But I remember when he said, ‘You can’t want it more than me’ and ‘I don’t want it’ — it was so profound. It took me a long time to get to, then I had to file for divorce. That was a very pivotal moment in my life because I remember that statement being like…’Yeah, you’re right. I can’t want your life more than you.'”
Kardashian and Odom got married in 2009 after just one month of dating. They appeared together on their own spin-off television show and quickly became favorites among reality TV viewers. Eventually, Khloe filed for divorce. However, she put the process on hold after Lamar suffered a near-fatal overdose. Kardashian stood by her estranged husband during his recovery. They eventually settled their divorce in 2016.
After Khloe and Lamar‘s divorce, the TV personality went on to fall for another NBA star, Tristan Thompson. The couple’s relationship became a staple in the tabloids after Thompson was busted cheating on Kardashian on several occasions. The pair eventually split for good but now co-parent their two children, True and Tatum, together.
As previously reported, Khloe Kardashian admitted that while both splits were painful, her divorce from Lamar Odom was more difficult to deal with than her breakup with Tristan Thompson.
In a recently released trailer for the new season of The Kardashians on Hulu, Lamar Odom makes a shocking return. The former athlete shows up to have a reunion with Khloe Kardashian in a moment that fans will definitely be interested in tuning in for. However, it remains to be seen if the former spouses are looking to strike up a friendship or more at this point.
