The United States has long been under scrutiny for the behavior of its federal government over the last few months. This behavior has resulted in various protests all around the country; for some, these protests are happening in our very own backyards. A school in Portland, Oregon, was recorded as being a part of the protest, with children carrying signs and shouting.

A child is never too young to have the difference between right and wrong taught to them, and it’s great that these teachers, as well as the parents of the children, are reportedly doing just that. It looks like a ton of people across the internet feel the same way.

Lil bodies, but BIG voices 🥹🥺 LISTEN TO THE KIDS! #ice #shutdown #protest #portland

The above video was posted to TikTok by user @pdx.bri, a parent named Bri in the Portland area. On the account, Bri typically posts about her children and the challenges and successes of being a parent. This video doesn’t stray too far off and is directed at a Montessori school nearby where she lives. You can see the students gathered in what appears to be a playground, holding signs and allegedly protesting.

Alongside many of the children are what appear to be their parents and other adults, signaling that these children were not there by themselves. For context, Montessori schools focus on student-centered learning and prioritize independence, hands-on learning, and mixed-age classrooms. So, it isn’t too surprising to see these types of students and families protesting.

It’s unclear if any of the children present at the protest belong to Bri, or if she is simply filming a neighboring school.

Portland Montessori School Seen Protesting ICE Shutdown

Commenters were primarily in shock that a school felt the need to participate in protests demonizing ICE. However, another majority of commenters also felt that this sort of situation is necessary in this day and age, even applauding the students and saying, “Good job kiddos! You have a bright future! 🤞🏻✌🏼✌🏽✌🏾✌🏿“

What’s really interesting is reading one of the comments from someone who claims to be related to one of the children in the crowd, saying, “Spotting my nephew protesting on my fyp is so cool!!!” Children really are our future, and a different commenter agrees with this, saying, “As a teacher myself, I tell you these children do NOT get enough credit. I remember being a child myself. And all I needed was someone to believe in me. I believe in our children ❤️❤️❤️“

Hopefully, the teachers and parents of this school are recognized for ensuring their children are informed about what is going on around them.
