Killer Instinct occupies a strange place in the fighting game community. It still does maintain a pretty strong following and a competitive scene, however, and developer Iron Galaxy has released a new character to help maintain that scene. Check out the trailer below showing gameplay for Kilgore:

Ultimates, Killer Instinct‘s finishing moves and answer to Mortal Kombat‘s bloody fatalities, are also making a return.
According to the story, Kilgore is an early version of the robot that would become Fulgore. This specific model became self-aware and has been rescued from shut down for special missions. And, like most silly fighting game stories, that involves engaging in one-on-one fights to the death with the best martial artists in the world.
Kilgore will set people back $10, which sounds like a lot of money to shell out for a single character. There is a method to the madness, however. Half of the cost of the new character will go directly to fund the Killer Instinct Ultra Tour. That would be the main support behind the Killer Instinct competitive scene.
You can read the full description of the new character from the Microsoft store below:
“Before Fulgore and the Mark 03 units were introduced to the world, Ultratech created a line of failed cyborgs during the secret CCIX Program. These hulking battle machines bore twin overpowered chain guns that tended to overheat, making them unstable and unfit for service. But one cyborg—nicknamed Kilgore—became self-aware, and started rewriting his own software to account for this deficiency in his hardware. Saved from the scrapheap, this special unit has been brought out of retirement by ARIA to enforce her will…and Kilgore obeys. Note: 50% of the proceeds from this offer will be used to fund the Killer Instinct Ultra Tour.”
You can grab Kilgore for $10 today.
