InvincibleVS, a new 3v3 tag fighter based on the Invincible comic and animated series, was officially revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025. Developed by Skybound Entertainment, the game is scheduled for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but this also means the dream of seeing a new Killer Instinct game from the same team is dead and buried.
The roster includes familiar names like Invincible, Omni-Man, Atom Eve, Bulletproof, and Thula, with gameplay focused on fast-paced tag-team mechanics and brutal, bloody, super-powered combat. It is like a mix between Mortal Kombat and Marvel vs Capcom, a match made in, well, not heaven, that’s for sure. According to Skybound, players can expect bone-crunching combos, bloodied arenas, and a variety of modes, including single-player story, arcade, multiplayer, and training.
Robert Kirkman, co-creator of Invincible, called InvincibleVS the “most excited I’ve been about anything involving Invincible,” and promised the game would deliver the kind of “over-the-top brutality” fans have come to expect from both the comic and the show.
Behind the scenes, though, InvincibleVS comes with unexpected news for fighting game fans. According to Maximilian_DOOD, the game is being developed by many of the original developers from Double Helix, the same team that revived Killer Instinct in 2013. This is the first time in over a decade that the original crew has reunited.
That means while InvincibleVS may end up being a quality fighter, it likely spells the end, or at least another long pause, for a new Killer Instinct game or sequel. Fans hoping for a new Killer Instinct from the same team may want to temper expectations, as their attention is now firmly locked on Skybound’s new IP.
Couple this with the recent announcement from Arc System Works about Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, and the tag fighter scene is blowing up. InvincibleVS could be a serious contender—just maybe not the one KI fans were waiting for.
