The United States election results earlier this week, in which Donald Trump was the victor, have divided the country. Some people have expressed heartbreak and utter disappointment. In contrast, others have celebrated the win, but the one thing that remains clear during this time is that many people are looking to celebrities to make a statement. Kim Kardashian has shared her political views publicly on more than one occasion and is often viewed as a passionate Democrat. However, her silence after the election results has angered many fans, who have taken to social media to express their disappointment.
Rather than focus on the results, Kardashian has been using her Instagram to share her various collaborations, her fashion inspiration and looks (some of which have proven controversial), and to promote her businesses. Most recently, she focused on her shapewear and clothing brand, Skims, and made what she thought was an exciting announcement.
Kardashian shared a video clip of “Goldie Hawn, Kate Hudson & Family for SKIMS” for her 359 million followers. In the snap, they all look delighted as they indulge in delicious-looking food (including fancy cakes) and spend time together as a family. The company has collaborated with many famous faces for fun or gorgeous campaigns, but the timing of the latest Christmas pajama collection has felt off.
Many Kardashian fans have criticized the video for being tone-deaf. Among the comments are remarks about how families struggle to afford food (only to see rich people enjoy a feast), and others have focused on the election.
Angry Fans React To Kim Kardashian’s Recent Instagram Post
“Girl please. Completely out of touch,” a comment reads. “This is incredibly insensitive considering the election,” another fan shared. Other comments include, “Kim read the room damn,” “Not speaking or saying anything about the election is very telling lol,” and “Your silence during the most consequential election of our lifetime, speaks volumes.”
Fans would have noticed that Kardashian was less political during this election (she had previously passionately campaigned hard for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 election campaign). She and her son, Saint West (whom she shares with her ex-husband and proud Trump supporter Kanye West), also made headlines because the 8-year-old had his YouTube channel, @TheGoatSaint, taken down shortly before the election for reportedly posting two memes directed at Presidental candidate and current Vice President, Kamala Harris.
Is it Kim Kardashian’s job to make a statement about the election or voice her political opinions? Many fans clearly feel that her platform should be used this way, hence the disappointment.
