Back in Arnold/Ahnold’s heyday he played a wide range of roles. He could be a commando, a father trying to buy a toy for his kid, a killer robot, Danny DeVito’s brother, or even a slightly different type of commando. Perhaps his greatest role of all was when he stepped into the shoes of a kindergarten teacher. Kindergarten Cop is an American classic, depending on how you define the term classic. It had a delightfully silly premise and bucketloads of charm. Just look at big bad Arnold Schwarzenegger getting all flustered while trying to handle a room of five-year-olds. All our fond memories of Arnold screaming about cookies are about to be set ablaze.
Kindergarten Cop is getting a reboot and Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t in it. Universal’s 1440 division is making the film. 1440 is known for making sequels to popular movies and pushing them out direct-to-DVD. Previous titles of theirs include Jarhead 3: The Siege, Curse of Chucky, Tremors 5, and The Scorpion King 3 and 4. Don Michael Paul, known for Who’s Your Caddy and Half Past Dead will be handling directorial duties.
Showbiz 411 broke the story and managed to get some info on the plot:
The new Kindergarten cop is a leading man type with an Indian sidekick named Sanjit. They’re on the trail of a missing flash drive from the Federal Witness protection program. Somehow it’s wound up in a kindergarten class.
Be sure to look out for this gem when it hits your favorite streaming service at some point in the future.
