It’s been a long time coming, but King Charles has finally stepped up to the plate and taken action against his own brother, Prince Andrew. Well, ‘former prince’ at this point, as the King has stripped his younger sibling of everything: the Style, Titles, Honors, and even his own home, the Royal Lodge. Previously, Andrew had come out publicly saying he had voluntarily given up his royal title as Duke. This time, King Charles has brought down the hammer and executed the punishment himself in an official statement.
In a 109-word announcement from Buckingham Palace, King Charles has initiated a “formal process to remove the style, titles and honours of Prince Andrew,” which will force him to be called Andrew Mountbatten Windsor moving forward. The statement also said the disgraced royal is being forced to surrender his lease at the Royal Lodge and move to a private home. The new accommodations will be funded by Charles, according to BBC. The King also berates his brother for denying the allegations made against him and makes it clear that his “thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”
One of the victim’s family members has come forward, praising the action taken by the King as justice for Virginia Giuffre: “Today, an ordinary American girl from an ordinary American family, brought down a British prince with her truth and extraordinary courage.” Before tragically taking her life earlier this year, Giuffre did her best to call for Andrew’s accountability for abusing her, per BBC. And while she will sadly never see this victory, her surviving family is overjoyed at the news.
Prince Andrew Deserves Much Worse for What He’s Done
Still, not everyone sees King Charles’ “very brutal” punishment as enough for the crimes that Andrew has committed. “Good and now put him in jail where he belongs,” adds a Reddit user. “He’s not in prison. This isn’t enough. It also should have happened a long time ago,” chimes in another. It’s quite ironic, considering just several days ago, a critic had publicly heckled King Charles during a royal engagement, trying to fish out anything from the monarch’s brother and the connection to Epstein. Besides Charles covering for his own sibling, one commenter speculated why this hasn’t happened sooner:
It’s also because the royals don’t want people to realize that if they can strip one of them of all of their titles (because IIRC Charles needs parliament to help him do it), then the people can remove the titles of all of the royalty and might just come to the conclusion that they don’t need any royalty at all.
Needless to say, many eyes are now locked on Harry and Meghan, as many believe the hammer of justice should be brought down on them, too. But to be fair, a child predator is considered to be a much bigger deal that deserves legal punishment, compared to a couple who many refer to as ‘drama-seeking wanna royals.’ What Andrew did should have him sent to prison, but regardless, this is certainly a big step in the right direction.
