King Charles has a clear favorite between his sons and it isn’t Prince Harry. After weeks of speculations about whether or not Harry would reconcile with the British monarch and his brother Prince William during his UK visit, the royals shocked the world with the revelation that the long-anticipated May 8 reunion would not happen. Although the royals attributed this to the king’s “full program,” royal experts believe Harry’s brother, William, influenced their dad’s decision. King Charles’ latest military appointment to Prince William during Prince Harry’s UK visit further fueled this theory.
King Charles Grants Prince William Military Appointment Snubbing Harry
On Wednesday, May 8, King Charles appointed his older son as the Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Cops. According to royal expert Katie Nicholl, the military appointment to Prince William is a slap to Harry who would have otherwise earned the appointment if he had never stepped back from his royal duties.
Explaining why the monarch’s younger son would have been a deserving recipient of the said role, the royal expert cited his years of military experience, including serving two tours in Afghanistan. It appears the monarch knows this as well, opting to give William the role as a message to Harry. To further buttress this, he sought the perfect timing to ensure the prince knew he was being snubbed intentionally, as a consequence of his actions. Katie explained,
“You know, the timing is curious. I think many people will see that as a bit of a snub, really from the palace, and perhaps a little bit of a poke in the ribs to Prince Harry.”
Interestingly, the announcement of Prince William’s new military appointment came just hours after Prince Harry arrived in the UK to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. Despite championing the event that he founded for wounded military veterans, the prince could not wear his military uniform, having been stripped of his military titles in 2021. Katie added,
“It’s probably another slap in the face for Prince Harry, and yet another reminder that he’s very much out rather than in when it comes to the royal family.”
A Glaring Message to Harry
Prince Harry’s military snub comes weeks after King Charles awarded several senior royals royal titles, including Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton. At the time, Kate, diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, became the first royal appointed to the order of Companions of Honour. Meanwhile, King Charles named Prince William the Great Master of the Order of Bath.
The appointment honored William’s outstanding military and civil service. Getting to swipe yet another military appointment barely weeks later, with Harry, a suitable contender, present in the UK seems like an obvious provocation aimed at the estranged prince. Then again, coincidences do happen.
