King Charles invites US President Donald Trump on a royal visit with a personal letter in a spiteful move against Prince Harry. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday handed a letter to Trump from the British monarch during his latest White House visit to discuss peace-fostering efforts amid the Ukraine war. King Charles’ letter, well-received by the POTUS, contained an offering to meet either at Dumfries House or Balmoral Castle, both locations in Scotland, to discuss common interests. The invitation, if honored, would mark Donald Trump’s second state visit to the UK, an unprecedented move by a sitting president.
In the note, King Charles, who has been estranged from his son Prince Harry for years, pointed out the joint roles the US and the UK had to play in promoting values that mattered to them. Charles proceeded to recount Donald Trump’s previous visits to the UK during his past presidency, and their initial talks of him visiting “Dumphries House in Scotland” just before the coronavirus pandemic set in. With the world returned to normalcy and Trump’s return to office after 4 years, the British monarch deemed it a good time to reextend the invitation to the US president.
King Charles Extends Unprecedented Royal Visit to Donald Trump

King Charles proceeded to lay out the abundance of ways that a visit could prove beneficial, from providing the opportunity to discuss “issues of mutual interests,” to snagging the chance to plan a second state visit to the United Kingdom. The monarch also pointed out that this visit would be “unprecedented,” giving them a chance to make history. After delivering the letter to Donald Trump on Thursday, Starmer doubled down on the special significance of the historic visit. A video capturing their interaction at the Oval Office shows the Prime Minister describing the opportunity as “really special,” adding,
“This has never happened before, This is unprecedented… I think that just symbolizes the strength of the relationship between us. This is a very special letter. I think the last state visit was a tremendous success. His majesty the king wants to make this even better than that.”
Charles Shuts Down Prince Harry’s Claims About Royal Politics With Scornful Trump Alliance

Donald Trump accepted the invitation wholly on behalf of himself and his wife, Melania Trump. He then described the UK as a fantastic country, noting that he and his wife looked forward to honoring the King’s invitation. King Charles’ letter inviting Donald Trump on a state visit came in the wake of son Prince Harry’s political message about the royal family. Addressing the audience at a venture capital event in Los Angeles on Thursday, the royal discussed topics ranging from tech to mental health. Additionally, he highlighted the royal family’s apolitical stance, and how his own upbringing stopped him from participating in politics or even voting. He quipped,
“I’m not one to be caught in the divide between left or right views, not concerned by a belief in blue or red. Hell, I’ve never even been allowed to vote.”
King Charles’ move to extend an invitation to the Republican president on the exact day Harry made this speech seemed like a clear message to Harry. Making the jad sting even more is the knowledge that Charles’ rare invitation to Scotland for the unprecedented visit went out to none other than Donald Trump. The POTUS has openly castigated Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, more so in recent times, publicly describing the Duchess of Sussex as “terrible.” He’s also made threats to have Harry deported from the United States amid his visa application scandal, making it clear the Prince is not exactly his favorite royal. After such brutal swipes at him, an alliance with his dad is the last thing Prince Harry would want.
