King Charles‘ relationship with Prince Hary appears to be in a much better place than it has in years, but unresolved issues keep lurking despite their birthday exchange. On September 15, the royal feud took an unexpected twist as the palace extended an official birthday wish to Harry on the royal family’s Instagram page. The supposed olive branch resurrected whispers of an imminent reconciliation between the 40-year-old and his estranged family. Prince Harry’s UK engagement later this month naturally seems like the ideal opportunity for a reunion and the final step in the reconciliation.
British broadcaster Helena Chard has doubts about this reconciliatory effort going as smoothly as anticipated. According to her, there is a huge chance issues with Prince Harry’s UK security demands might creep up again, and derail a seamless meeting between King Charles and his son. Additionally, like other royal family members, the monarch had reservations about having conversations with Harry for fear of him making them public. Helena divulged,
“All royal family members want to be sure that their conversations remain private. King Charles is thoroughly fed up with Prince Harry assuming that he can [manage] his security requests. He will not be available 24/7 for Prince Harry’s demands.”
Regardless of these reservations, the broadcaster believes the monarch’s love for his younger son would shine through. At the very least, King Charles would “make an effort” to communicate with Prince Harry “on important days.” This form of contact, however subtle, would be a significant step in the progress of their strained relationship.
Prince Harry and King Charles Are on the Right Track
During the Duke’s previous UK visit on May 8 to honor the Invictus Games’ 10th anniversary, the father and son never had their chance to reunite despite the long anticipation. A spokesperson for Prince Harry confirmed at the time that the anticipated meeting would not take place due to King Charles’ busy schedule. Interestingly, the monarch hosted a banquet only miles away on the same day, making the flopped reunion all the more questionable. Helena believes things would pan out better this time on. She shared,
“I believe situations will improve between King Charles and Prince Harry. Things are moving in the right direction, but it isn’t going to be a quick fix.”
The estranged prince would have another chance to reconcile with his dad this month as he returns to the UK for another engagement he holds dear. The WellChild Awards in London, on Wednesday, confirmed Harry’s attendance at the annual event as a guest speaker. This event, promoting the organization’s commitment to supporting ill children, will take place on September 30. Although UK security remains a concern for the prince, he would have that covered as with his previous visits. As for living arrangements, the Duke would most likely take residence at a hotel, unless the royal family offers accommodation under conditions he deems suitable. With the royal family’s recent unexpected birthday tribute to Prince Harry, there’s no ruling that out.
