The Kingdom Hearts trailers keep coming! Earlier this week Square Enix unveiled a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3 at Sony’s Pre-TGS presentation. The teaser trailer can be viewed below:
In this trailer, we got a quick look at a previously announced world, Big Hero 6. Big Hero 6 was confirmed as a world in Kingdom Hearts 3 back in 2017 but has yet to be shown in the game. The trailer shows Baymax and the rest of Big Hero 6 fighting Heartless in the city of San Fransokyo. Keeping with previous trailer themes, the first half showed off the Disney settings and the second half focused on the convoluted Kingdom Hearts story.
We got another look at a few of the other worlds as well. Snippets of Toy Story, Monsters Inc, and Tangled were shown alongside the reveal of the Big Hero 6 world. As for the story bits, Venitas, Xehenort, and other Organization XIII members were shown in quick succession finally giving us another look at the new Xehenort claimed Aqua from the E3 trailers. As a fan of Kingdom Hearts, it’s nice to see that Square Enix seems to be striking an equal balance of Disney fan service and cheesy Kingdom Hearts story goodness in each of their trailers.
Finally, gummi ships are making a return in Kingdom Hearts 3! This is great news for some and horrible news for others. It’s a staple of the mainline Kingdom Hearts games and looks to improve with ship customization and crazier space battles.
Director of Kingdom Hearts 3, Tetsuya Nomura revealed that this short trailer is just a snippet of what is to come at Tokyo Game Show. The upcoming trailer will dive deeper into what we’ve already seen in this trailer by giving us a better look at the Big Hero 6 world as well as showing more story bits. Tokyo Game Show will take place from September 20th-23rd so expect the trailer to drop during that time period.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is slated to finally release on January 29th, 2019 on Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
