It’s been a month since news surrounding the canceled Kombat Pack 3 ended the Mortal Kombat 1 hype for new content, but as the days go by, more interesting reports regarding this matter come out. Footage of Kung Jin, one of the supposed characters in the leaked Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack 3 list, has emerged online, and it looks nothing near promising.
MK1 Kombat Pack 3 was supposed to bring two other Kombat Kids besides Takeda to the game. Now unlike Cassie Cage, Kung Jin has got some early footage leaked online by the users and dataminers, revealing how Kung Lao’s cousin would’ve looked in MK1.
Looking at the design, nothing special sets Kung Jin apart from an ordinary NPC. Without his head, it even looks like a skin for Reiko. You might also notice that he doesn’t have his bow on his hands, but it’s probably because of the early looks. We can still spot the quiver on his back, so Kung Jin would’ve still had his bow as his main weapon.
The last time we got to see a canon version of Kung Jin in a Mortal Kombat game was MK1, where Titan Kitana killed all the Kombat Kids for good in an intense cutscene. However, it’s been 10 years since Kung Jin was a playable character in a Mortal Kombat game, and the wait goes on for more.
Now that Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack 3 is canceled, the leaked design of Kung Jin might become a leftover asset that reappears in a later game. Mortal Kombat 2 is our best guess for NetherRealm Studio’s next game, and it’s been teased by Jade’s actress‘ recent post on social media as well. So do we get to see Kung Jin in MK2? Only Lord Liu Kang knows.
