You certainly wouldn’t expect a SWAT team to come pounding on your door when you’ve done absolutely nothing illegal. Yet mistakes still happen, and one such alarming incident unfolded in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A Las Vegas resident who goes by the username snrpro shared a shocking story online about how his girlfriend’s house was mistakenly raided by a SWAT team early yesterday morning in the city’s Southwest area. According to snrpro, everyone inside made it out physically safe, but the house itself was left badly damaged. He explained that his girlfriend bought the home in 2020, yet police and the SWAT team were actually targeting a man who had lived there more than five years ago.
“This is totally unacceptable,” the Las Vegas resident wrote, pointing out that officers not only raided his girlfriend’s home but also stormed the man’s other former residence, where the suspect wasn’t found either.
Snrpro went on to question how police and the SWAT team could even obtain a search warrant without first verifying that the suspect still lived at the property. He called the raid a massive waste of time, resources, and taxpayer money, while stressing that the emotional toll on innocent homeowners was just as damaging as the physical destruction.
Though he described himself as “pro-police,” the resident emphasized that this was a clear case of negligence. He urged the SWAT team and police in general to do more due diligence before breaking into someone’s home, even suggesting basic steps like staking out properties and confirming suspects are present before launching such a raid.
The damage left behind was significant: a ripped-off garage door, a torn-off front door, bent sections of the house frame, broken inside door handles, holes in the drywall, and more. Snrpro estimated the repairs would cost at least $25,000. To make matters worse, photos he uploaded showed the extent of the destruction, with the front door lying completely off its hinges and the garage door left crumpled on the ground, forcing the entrance to be boarded up with plywood.
Many Reddit users expressed outrage, urging the Las Vegas resident to get legal representation and fight back against the authorities for the SWAT team’s mistake. “Stop talking and lawyer up,” one user bluntly advised. In a later update, snrpro said his girlfriend was told that the police would not be covering the damages. “I’m beyond furious right now. I can’t believe they can do this to people.” he said.
That revelation sparked even more outrage online, with many commenters insisting that the couple should contact the media, make the story go viral, and pressure officials to take responsibility for what the SWAT team had done.
