Well, I stumbled across a rather unhinged thing on LinkedIn today: a woman defending Elon Musk’s Nazi salute during President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025. You can post many things on LinkedIn, such as job updates and advice to job seekers in a particular field. However, I have to admit that defending a person who made an apparent and direct gesture that was initially intended to bring together a hate group isn’t one of them. The best part is all the comments below the post and her many additional posts trying to defend it.
The video above features Jamie R. Colley, a Social Media Manager at 7 Watts, doing — you guessed it — a Nazi salute. Of course, she isn’t doing the gesture without reason; she’s doing it because she genuinely thinks it’s just a gesture and no one should be offended. In fact, she pairs the gesture with several other, obviously silly gestures to drive her point home. The post quickly gathered hundreds of comments from other users expressing their disappointment. Unfortunately, a handful of users also commented in support of her video, also trying to defend Elon Musk.
To make matters worse, after digging into what 7 Watts is, I learned that they create custom-modded Xbox controllers. It didn’t feel terrific to know that we are practically in the same industry concerning video games in some respect. Many of the comments came directly from others within the gaming industry, with many in awe of the fact that it was posted at all.
“So this is crazy”
I have to agree with the above. It doesn’t matter who you are or what your beliefs are, but posting them during a time of political turmoil on a website that could directly affect your job and, in turn, your income is crazy work. Hopefully, she gets whatever karma comes her way from spreading such hateful garbage.
