Riot games just announced their newest champion, Ekko, during the broadcast at their mid-season invitational. Ekko appears to be a young boy who is capable of manipulating and moving through time, stating in the Ekko:Seconds video that he only needs “seconds” to fix things. Moreover, on the League of Legends Wiki, he is called “the boy who shattered time”.

Ekko has a steampunk tech like appearance and dons a white mohawk, so we can probably assume he is from Piltover or Zaun. His abilities seem similar to the Prince of Persia, Sands of Time, where he avoids defeat by reversing time and fixing mistakes. However, because this is a multiplayer game, it will be interesting to see how his abilities affect enemies as well as teammates.

Nevertheless, despite the new trailer, his background is still uncertain. Some are speculating that he will be an assassin, while others are saying he is what a Zilean rework should have been. Many are reading Piltover lore and affirming a potential relationship with Zilean, regarding “The Festival of Flight” which reports an event where Zilean cooperated with the City of Progress to make some “Piltover Chrono-Technology”. In that time the equipment was capable of “manipulate time itself to reach speeds that would otherwise be impossible under Valoran constantly changing atmospheric conditions”.

What we do know is that Riot will introduce more information very soon. What do you think about the trailer? Are you excited to see how Ekko plays? How do you feel about Bard, and do you think Ekko will be widely used among summoners? Leave your comments below.

I believe that games are an important form of entertainment, and that they can uplift and inspire millions of people around the world. I love JRPGs, and dabble in many other genres, especially MOBAs.
