Riot Games has announced plans to release a new game mode for League of Legends. The mode currently in the prototyping phase is described as a deathmatch-style mode and will differ from the other infrequent game modes offered outside of Summoner’s Rift and ARAM. The new mode was teased as part of a video released by Riot Games, which was primarily an apology for the company’s lack of communication and other mistakes.
League of Legends’ Deathmatch-style Game Mode Revealed
According to Riot Brightmoon, the executive producer of League of Legends, the new mode will be shown off before its release in the summer, with more information expected to be released in March. “In fact, just this week, we played a prototype for a new game mode a couple of days ago, and it’s really promising and is something that we’re hoping to get out to all of you sometime this summer,” said Brightmoon.
The new mode, which involves four teams of two matched against each other in deathmatch-like rounds, will also allow players to buy items and level up between rounds. Riot Meddler, the head of League Studio, described the prototype as “a little janky” and “a little rough” but added that the team believes it has a lot of potential.

We know we failed to deliver some stuff that really matters to you folks. We want to share some thoughts and talk about how we're working to do better. pic.twitter.com/Br8Oi9E8dN

The announcement of a new game mode is a welcome development for fans of League of Legends, as past communications from Riot Games have led to a lack of confidence in the company’s rotating game modes. A post from last year listed several modes that Riot had no plans to bring back, so the news of a new mode is a positive step for those looking for a change from the standard experiences offered in the game.
The new game mode will likely have a specific theme and be accompanied by a new skin line and an overarching story. This is in line with previous limited-time game modes released by Riot Games. The theming of the new mode has not been revealed yet, but fans can expect more information to be released in the upcoming weeks and months leading up to the event.
