Leah Remini is moving on from her marriage. In a lengthy Instagram post on Thursday, the actress revealed that she and husband Angelo Pagan have decided to split. The decision comes after 28 years together and 21 years of marriage.
The couple shared the news in a joint Instagram post. In it, they shared that, “This decision came after a lot of thought and care, and as hard as divorce is, we are approaching this with a positive outlook because we know it’s what’s best for us.”
We are proud of how we have worked through this together.
Yes, we’re sad, and we’ve got some figuring out to do as we continue to move forward into our new normal—together still in many ways, and apart in some new ones.
But here’s the thing: we’ve been best friends for so many years. We are still celebrating holidays together, watching our favorite tv shows together, and gathering as a family.
Leah Explained Why the Pair Made the Decision
Of course, the actress was aware that people will be interested in why the two are splitting up. After so many years together, most people expect a couple that’s together will stay together. As Leah Remini explained, “we both changed.”
To put it simply, we both changed, as people do, and we got used to playing roles that didn’t fit us anymore.
After a lot of effort and consideration, we’ve decided to take this step, which reflects who we are today. Our bond is still strong—it’s just evolved into something different.
We think a marriage that lasted this long and created so many beautiful memories, especially raising our incredible daughter, is something to celebrate.
From our perspective, this marriage was a huge success. And now, we’re looking forward to creating even more cherished moments—just in a different way.
Many fans applauded the pair’s mature announcement and commitment to staying amicable during one of life’s biggest difficulties. The two continue to co-parent daughter Sofia, 19.
While the two have had a long relationship, Remini has been candid about the fact it wasn’t always easy. In a 2019 talk show appearance, she admitted that therapy helped them navigate their relationship’s early, rockier days and maintain a strong front.
Remini has walked a long road, recently returning to pursue an education after having just completed 8th grade. After achieving an associate’s degree from New York University, she’s currently pursuing her bachelor’s.
Earlier this summer, Remini quietly sold her Los Angeles home, which may have been a sign of the changes to come. The 10,000+ sq. ft. mansion was sold for $9.3 million — nearly triple the price it was purchased for in 2003.
In many ways, it’s a season of new beginnings for the actress. Fans are eager to see what happens next and how her future unfolds.
