LeBron James is no stranger to being the center of attention. LBJ has been the best player in the NBA for many years and arguably the best basketball player to ever step foot on the court. However, with the Los Angeles Lakers’ most recent blunder in the postseason, is The King on his way out? The Lakers have fallen to the Denver Nuggets once again, and their season has ended early much to the disappointment of fans.
According to SI, after the loss, James was asked about his future, and he refused to answer the question. He also stated that he just wants to spend time with his family. A few days later, news outlets were buzzing with rumors that LeBron would opt out of his contract to test NBA free agency. James then responded to the rumors on X.
Is Lebron James Playing All of This Up?
“I’ve seen, heard a lot of reports about my future,” James tweeted amid the rumors. “I said it last night and I’ll say it again. I do not know yet as I’m only thinking about spending time with my family & friends! When I know after speaking with the fam, my counsel, as well as my representation about it then you guys will know.”
This was met with mixed feelings from fans around the NBA. However, there were a lot of fans telling James to stop being so dramatic about everything. “Stop fishing for attention,” one fan wrote. “Retire. We don’t need any more cry babies,” another said. “Nobody not worried about you; enjoy Cancun,” said another unhappy fan.
LeBron James is not afraid to play these things up, either, just like in 2010 when he left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat on national television. “I’ll be taking my talents to South Beach,” LeBron stated during a televised special.
Whatever James decides to do, all of this drama is not good for him or the Los Angeles Lakers. It will be very interesting to see what LeBron does this offseason. Although he seems to love LA, it may just be time for another change.
