As tried and tested genre formulas go, none are quite as set in stone as the city-building management sim. With Buildings Have Feelings Too!, Blackstaff Games aims to mix things up with a novel premise and an injection of quirky humor. And, we don’t have long to wait either, with the developer, alongside publisher Merge Games, announcing today that Buildings Have Feelings Too! lands on PC and consoles on April 22.
As the name implies, Buildings Have Feelings Too! tasks players with managing the needs and wants of a city’s sentient structures rather than its inhabitants. As Blackstaff Games explains:
Imagine a city where buildings can walk and talk to one other. Each one has its own aspirations, hope and fears. Most of the time they’re just trying to get along with each other and make it through the day. Buildings Have Feelings Too! is a city management game with character. Players must grow their city while making sure the individual buildings thrive, or risk them being demolished forever.”
Players will have to morph their humble city into a thriving metropolitan center brimming with shops, offices, entertainment, and amenities. Alongside, Buildings Have Feelings Too! requires that you add in new neighborhoods, assign specialist finances, whether that’s finance hubs or entertainment districts, all while managing electricity supply, transport systems, and noise pollution. Additionally, as time passes, new industries and architectural styles unlock. Simultaneously, world events muscle in to wreak havoc on the city, with crumbling buildings and bankrupting businesses.
