Gamers have been wanting to return to the Legacy of Kain universe since the release of the last game in 2003. According to Crystal Dynamics’ Michael Brinker, there’s a “50/50” chance that this comeback could happen in the current console generation cycle.
Brinker recently spoke with Australian publication Finder and had this to say: “We have in-house developers who really want to make that game. It’s interesting because people look back at our history and our franchisees and see that we have some really iconic IPs.”
“So gamers wonder,” he continued, “‘Where are they and what are they doing?’ Well, we’re always tossing around and talking about ideas. It really is 50/50.”
This doesn’t mean that a new game in the Legacy of Kain series has been confirmed. This means that Crystal Dynamics is interested in returning to the franchise. Of course, this statement could be applied to any other game in the company’s portfolio.
The last core entry in the series was Legacy of Kain: Defiance, which launched for Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PC in 2003. A follow-up, titled Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun, was reportedly in development at Climax Studios for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but was cancelled in 2012.
If Legacy of Kain were to make a comeback, it marks an awesome moment for gamers who have been waiting for a new game.
