The Sony State of Play for September 25 is mere hours away but a very important reveal seems to have gone live early. The legendary series Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver is making a return with both 1 and 2 getting remasters.
The remastered collection’s page went live on PSN a bit prematurely and it had all the details one would expect, including an amazing gameplay trailer. The games are not remakes from the ground up, but detailed remasters, and the proof is in the pudding. The DNA of the original games has been maintained, and Nosgoth has never looked this good. The remasters are being worked on by Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics, as can be seen at the end of the trailer (available below).
Before you start preparing wooden stakes to stab into vampires, unfortunately, the PSN page has been taken down. The listing says that it is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Soul Reaver and the fight between fan favorites Kain and Raziel.
It is very likely that the remastered collection of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver will be officially revealed during the upcoming State of Play event, but it has taken a bit of the wind out of Sony’s sails. It is unfortunate, but leaks like this happen all the time.
Sony hasn’t had a State of Play event since May of this year, so all eyes are on the PlayStation maker now. The company promised over 20 games to be shown during the 30+ minute event, and we’ve only gotten wind of one so far. The Japanese gaming giant still has a ton more to show and there is still a lot of excitement about what else we will get to see.
The original game was Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, and it came out back in 1996, and the last game in the franchise was released in 2003. And although fans have always loved this series, it was never revisited. Perhaps this remaster is a sign of what is to come in the future.
Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered will come out on December 10th, and preorders will probably go live right after the State of Play event concludes.
