An interview in New York City took an unexpected turn when a man refused to be distracted by his interviewer’s preferred topic and instead remained focused on the housing crisis plaguing the state.

In a video shared on Reddit, the man is seen speaking with a female interviewer. “There are still people out in doorways looking for shelter, and I think a lot of people think this is why we shouldn’t allow hedge funds to own residential properties,” he explained during the interview, while the reporter attempted to shift the discussion.

She changed the topic, describing the nostalgia of the weather and how it felt like the ’90s, describing it as nostalgic. The man nodded in acknowledgment, but that didn’t steer him away from his central argument. “Yeah, much more snow, colder winters, and again private equity didn’t hold so much of the housing stock in America,” he responded, returning to the same issue it seemed she was trying to avoid. She eventually concluded the exchange saying, “Thank you so much,” while pulling the microphone away. The comment section quickly erupted as viewers reacted strongly to the clip.

“This is American media. Guys, this is failed censorship in real time,” Someone clearly stated. Another highlighted the interviewer’s attempts to redirect the conversation. “She actively was trying to steer him away from tabling real issues and talking about some [Expletive],” one wrote, while another added, “The way media immediately pivots when touchy subjects get brought up on live tv shows, news outlets know exactly what they’re doing.”

“Absolute legend,” one user praised, with another replying, “He is so slick that even most people here don’t notice his climate change commentary.” A commenter joked about the interviewer’s choice: “Haha, she picked the wrong person to talk to for her bubble gum piece.”

The man received further encouragement with the remark, “A clever man stays on message, won’t be swayed.” This commenter described the press as complicit, writing, “Legacy media has become part of the corporate class and part of the problem, focusing on the wrong things or barely giving the important issues of our time any coverage.”

Another observed, “I don’t know anything else about this man, but if he’s plugged in enough to be [expletive] on letting private equity own an ever-increasing percentage of housing, I’d bet he’s informed on working-class struggles of other issues.” A similar comment read, “Corporate media stooge trying to distract him by talking about nonsense… good on him for ignoring her.”

One commenter reflected on shifting public attitudes: “We used to go up against monopolies and consolidation. Now everyone thinks it’s normal.”
