While it has received mixed reviews from fans and critics alike, I find myself enjoying Legends of Tomorrow more with each passing episode. The show about the secondary heroes of the “Arrow-Verse” going on an adventure through time with the renegade Time Master, Rip Hunter (played by Arthur Darvill), had a rough start to be sure. However, the show managed to find its footing as it went on, much like many of The CW’s Superhero-Based Shows before it (Arrow, The Flash, Smallville). I’d argue that, at this point, it’s better than Arrow. The whole show features these characters trying to stop the villain, Vandal Savage, at different points in history, leading to some clever and fun ideas that the show brilliantly plays on. These ideas include going to Russia during the cold war, meeting up with Jonah Hex in the old west and even inspiring HG Wells in one episode (yes, they did that).
Well, now it seems like the show is going a step further as The CW has confirmed the upcoming appearance of Cassandra Savage, the daughter of the show’s main villain on Legends of Tomorrow. It seems as though this version of the character will be somewhat of a departure from the source material, as the daughter we knew in the comics was the assassin, Scandal Savage (Who is essentially an X-23 ripoff. No really, even Ray Charles, with a blindfold on, would say they were the same character). Based on the photo below, while Cassandra (played by Jessica Sipos) may look as though she’s geared up for war, it doesn’t look like her and her father have a good relationship. It actually looks like they hate each other, which could lead to some interesting drama from not just them, but from Rip Hunter.
For those who aren’t familiar with the show, Rip Hunter’s wife and child were murdered by Vandal Savage in the year 2166, shortly after Savage rose to power. Rip assembled the team of heroes to hunt down Savage and kill him in the past so that he could save his wife and child in the future. Since the show began, Rip has already toyed with the idea of killing others to get to savage, one of which included a young child, who would grow up to be a ruthless dictator and right hand to Savage. That being said, it stands to reason that, as a last resort, Rip may finally cross the line by trying to kill Savage’s daughter. However, this could also go another way. They appear to not like each other in the picture above but, in the comics anyway, Scandal Savage (or Cassandra as she’ll be called on the show) is a deadly assassin and if the show plays on that, Vandal may end up using his daughter as his inevitable trump card; the force that could potentially kill the legends. Again, this is all speculation but the point is that there are many great scenarios that can be brought up from having this character introduced on The Legends of Tomorrow.
The CW released the official synopsis for Episode 13 (Titled “Leviathan”): “Rip takes the team to London in the year 2166, three months before his family is killed. He believes this to be their final opportunity to take out Savage who is, unfortunately, at the height of his power. However, the team discovers two key elements to defeating him – Savage’s daughter (guest star Jessica Sipos) and the means to kill Savage once and for all.”
