With the rise of video games into the mainstream, traditional toys found their market share being challenged as more kids started asking for consoles rather than dolls. Lego decided that if you couldn’t beat them, you should join them. What followed has been the widely successful line of Lego games based on adapting popular franchises like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings into lighthearted Lego adaptions. And in recent years, they’ve slowly been producing Lego adaptions for TV, like Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures;
As you might have guessed by the trailer, you shouldn’t expect any references to Freemaker Adventures in Episode VIII. In terms of where the show is set in the original trilogy, StarWars.com fills in the blanks;
“Set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, will introduce all-new heroes and villains in exciting adventures with many familiar Star Wars characters.
Told in the whimsically-charged style that audiences have come to expect from LEGO Star Wars entertainment, the series stars the Freemakers, a family of scavengers who build and sell starships from the scoured debris of space battles strewn throughout the galaxy. When their youngest discovers a natural connection with the Force through an ancient artifact — the Kyber Saber — his world is turned upside down, and he and his family are thrown into an epic struggle against the Empire to restore peace and freedom to the galaxy.”
The Freemaker Adventures debuts on Disney XD on June 20th.
