Texas Representative Chip Roy recently criticized American politics, saying that “government and corporate [expletive]” are part of everything that’s wrong with the country. His remarks were met with mockery online, however, as many Texans made fun of his “courage” to stand up to big corporations only as he is leaving his public position.
The controversy began when Roy posted on X, claiming that “the real issue on data centers, transmission lines, flock cameras, FISA, beef imports, Islam, immigration, “safety” regulations, healthcare, & pretty much everything” is the government and corporations telling people to “just trust” them.
Roy then went on a long rant about how Americans just want “a safe Christian-based western community” and “dignity of a job they can maintain” while elites destroy their livelihoods. Chip Roy has served as the U.S. representative for Texas’s 21st congressional district since 2019. In 2026, he ran for Texas Attorney General but lost in the primary.

Redditors on r/Texas were quick to mock Chip Roy for his “bold” stance during the last year he’ll be serving as a Texas representative. One of them said: “Yep, happy to talk about how evil our corporate overlords are now that he doesn’t need to shill for them.” Someone else added: “Maybe Trump and the GOP should stop giving them all of our money.”
Others took a jab at the GOP’s stance on several subjects, saying: “I thought it was Muslims, Jews (but not Israel), immigrants, brown people, woke, Antifa? I’m so confused.”
A seemingly angry user wrote: “While he’s bashing ‘corporate [expletive],’ let’s remember that the money he wasted losing to MAGA Mayes CAME from corporate asshats. He’s rich and had the $17 million of his own money to lose on the campaign because he worked at Goldman-Sachs, and Exxon, and for venture capital bros. He’s not growing a spine, he’s not spilling secrets or telling anyone where the bodies are buried, he’s just a sore loser.”
Some other folks were equally enraged by what they deemed hypocrisy: “And the Republican party is the one that enables that corporate [expletive] the most. He’s only saying because he’s on his way out and is no longer beholden to his corporate puppeteers.”
In the end, most Texans on the thread didn’t seem convinced Roy was sincere in his criticism. As one of them said: “The call is coming from inside the house? Takes one to know one?”
