NBC News recently shared a report that’s turning the stomachs of Texas locals. The report details the accounts of detainees held at the Dilley ICE Detention Center in San Antonio. According to the release, the conditions of the facility are horrific, specifically for the children being held there. The treatment of detainees is so horrendous that many have begun calling it a concentration camp, comparing it to Nazi-era Germany.
“On November 16th, a mental health counselor recorded in one of the children’s medical records that her mother had reported the girl had lost her appetite after being served food that contained worms,” the TikToker, @razorbladecactus, says in the video. As he continues reading from the report, things get worse.
Children were gathered in the Texas facility’s gym weeks later, under the impression they were getting a Thanksgiving meal. Once they arrived, they were informed that the food was not for them, and it was promptly wrapped up and taken away. Other sections of the NBC report describe food being moldy, rotten, or pest-infested. When food safe to eat was presented, it was immediately taken away in a mocking manner.
San Antonio Locals Are Repulsed by ICE
The details coming to light depict a grim, hostile picture for those detained by ICE. Additionally, the fact that this treatment targets children who are detained has locals infuriated. “I mean, this is a concentration camp, German style, at this point. They are doing exactly what the Nazis did. Exactly,” one user on Reddit says. To this, one person replies, “I feel sick to my stomach. Thank you for sharing. I honestly feel sick to my stomach. This has to stop. These Nazis have to stop. We have to stop them.”
Others expressed anger about living so close to the Texas detention center. “The rage I feel right now cannot be calculated by human math,” one person said, knowing what happens behind closed doors. “Wonder how it’s gonna impact tourism this summer. I mean, do people really want to come to a country where they can be abducted at whim by thugs who don’t show their faces or badges or any identification?”
