Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series was first announced in 2017 and will appear on their Prime service. Since then, we haven’t had too much information thrust upon us, besides some tidbits. Hopefully, we’ll see more in the coming months, for now, we can just keep our ears to the ground and keep checking the official Twitter account.
We’ve had no information so far regarding the cast. That is, until now. According to Variety, the first role has or shortly will be, filled. Multiple sources told the site that Markella Kavenagh will play a character called Tyra.
Kavenagh herself has relatively few acting credits to her name so far and is stepping into quite the role. Arguably, her most well-known work was playing Cindi, in the Romper Stomper TV series.
While it still seems a little soon for a new version of Lord of the Rings, the new series will actually act as a prequel set during the second age, before Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. This was a time when the rings of power were created, including the One Ring.
In theory, this should mean we get to see Sauron in a prominent role, when he was able to take a form that was much more than a giant floating eyeball, no matter how cool that was. I wouldn’t want to be the person in charge of that casting.
The Lord of the Rings series is reported to be the most expensive series ever made with the pilot episode to be directed by Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom director, JA Bayona.
After this first bit of suspected casting, I would hope we are treated to more details soon. We will bring you more information when we have it. A release date for the first season of a suspected 5 season run would certainly be nice.
Let us know your thoughts about the Lord of the Rings series in the comments below, I for one am holding my breath in hopeful anticipation.
