While some people seem eager to cozy up to Trump and help ICE spread fear, others are still standing their ground. Among them are the Los Angeles Dodgers in California. In a recent incident, a group of federal agents showed up wearing face coverings and arriving in SUVs and cargo vans. They looked suspicious enough that it didn’t take long for people to notice something was off.
Thankfully, the Dodgers didn’t just sit back and take it. Shortly after people spotted the suspicious visitors, a group of protesters began to gather. They held signs and chanted “ICE out of LA” in protest of the ongoing deportation efforts.
The Dodgers quickly updated fans online, posting a statement on X that said they had denied the agents access to the stadium grounds. They also confirmed that the game would still take place as planned despite the disruption.
ICE, on the other hand, denied everything. They claimed the reports were false and insisted their agents were never at the Dodgers stadium. The Department of Homeland Security supported that claim, stating the agents were with Customs and Border Protection and were not attempting to enter the stadium.
They claimed the vehicles were only briefly in the lot and that there was never any intention to take any action. This explanation came despite reports that the agents had asked for permission to access the grounds and were dressed in a way many found intimidating.
Many internet users expressed strong support for the protest and resistance against ICE in Los Angeles. Some praised the Dodgers for refusing to let the agents enter the stadium. One user commented, “This is what democracy looks like.” Others pointed out that the agents’ presence didn’t seem like a coincidence, noting it happened just a day after the Dodgers showed a slight support for the immigrant community.
While the team has yet to release a clear statement about their stance, their recent actions suggest a growing commitment to protecting the communities around them. Player Enrique Hernández also shared his thoughts online, saying he couldn’t stand to see how the community was being treated by ICE.
Even so, many are waiting to see what the Dodgers will do next. One user summed up the broader tension by writing, “This will end up being a defining moment in the battle of extremely rich liberals, like the owners of the LA Dodgers, versus racist and xenophobic federal agents working under ICE, DHS, and Trump’s loyal foot soldiers.”
