There were many victims of the California fires who ended up injured and lost their homes. That is why it is so frustrating to see heartless people abuse these emergency situations and the pain of others. Like this woman on Reddit, who wanted to take advantage of the fires in Los Angeles to “collect” various valuables, she even took an Emmy Award among the items she was stealing. Fortunately, the woman was caught before she could flee with her recently obtained award.
Redditor surf_rider shared on r/ActualPublicFreakouts a video that Dailymail posted on YouTube. In this video, the Los Angeles fire captain was doing some task in the fire zone when he found a woman stealing several items, including an Emmy Award. The woman collected various items in the back of her pickup truck, and the award was the most outstanding object among the rest. The fire captain entered the truck from the passenger side and took the woman’s keys to ensure she could not escape. All the while, the woman claimed that she was not stealing and that she would call her lawyer. However, the firefighters called the police, and they arrested the thief.
Even if the woman spoke to her lawyer, there was nothing else to do; she already had her car full of expensive items. In addition, she was in an area that no citizens could access, as the fire department was still working. Many users felt that threatening to call a lawyer when you are supposedly “not doing anything wrong” is basically accepting the crime.
Of course, the woman won that award, but calling dibs on it. However, the same video mentions that the Emmy Award belongs to Inness Shadrick and that she won it as Executive Producer for working on the 2002 Ansel Adams documentary. The truth is that in several affected areas, there were also well-known and popular people living there, so many people will surely try to take some of their belongings.
