While it’s not as common, customers can sometimes be the villain in some scammer stories. However, just because someone owns a business and is likely to be living much better off than others doesn’t make them deserving of any injustice. That said, a group of friends at an Airbnb home in California decided to scam the owner when one of them intentionally brought a bed bug into the house to make a fake report. The reason? They likely wanted to stay at the place with their friends for free.

Initially, when the scammer guest informed the Airbnb host about the bed bug, the owner offered a full refund, as long as everyone left by 11 am. Clearly spoiled from experiences in the past, the scammer asked if the host could recommend other places they could go instead of this home. Needless to say, the owner refused, considering how recommendations aren’t a part of their services.

The nail in the coffin that this lying guest was attempting to scam the host was when he was confronted about the bed bug and about whether his friends wanted to leave too. “All of his other 12 friends were enjoying the house and didn’t want to leave,” the Airbnb host explains on r/airbnb_hosts. In the end, the scammer concluded that it was just “suspicious” that he only found one bed bug and nothing else. “😂😂😂😂😂 The little scam didn’t work. I guess he thought I’d give him a refund and he’d get to stay for free,” laughed the host.

Plenty of Reddit users in the post’s comment section celebrated as well. “lol liars got caught in their own lies. Congrats,” one commenter congratulated. Another person recommended that the owner leave a one-star review for the customer that reads “would not host again.” “I hate that this is getting more common,” sighed a third. “They know they can scam and get a refund. It’s worse that ABB sides with them.” Considering how the host handled the scammer and his group in this situation, it definitely isn’t their first rodeo with these sorts of customers.
