Maine Boomers Fear Mexican Immigrants While Old Towns Are Vanishing ‘Immigration was the second-most important issue to Maine voters’

Least of their problems

Main, the oldest state in the country, tucked away all the way in the Northeast, about as far as you can get from the southern border, seems to have a racist anti immigration problem. Despite being a few thousand miles away from Texas, locals still have a huge problem and fear of Mexican immigrants coming to…Oh, I don’t know what. Take their jobs? Work in some of their dying towns? Establish some actual good and authentic Mexican restaurants? The problem has gotten so bad that some Maine citizens made a meme about Madawaska, and other locals lamented how stubbornly fickle this state is about immigration and deportation, despite having much more actual things to worry about.

So true
by inMaine

The meme posted in the Maine Reddit thread by user Comfortable_Dish5217 reads as follows.

Dudes will be from Madawaska, Maine worried about Mexican Immigrants

Simple and to the point, and with thgousands of likes and upvotes, clearly it’s resonating with some of the liberals in Maine as they all gather and discuss the lack of great Mexican food, the fact the state has dying towns left and right, and how it immigration is somehow the second biggest concern in the state, over taxes and other far more pressing issues.

From jokes to disbelief, here are some of the things people had to say about the racist in favor of ICE folks living in places like Madawaska.

“And complain that there is no Mexican food at the same time.”

“God, the white Mainer attempt at Mexican food seriously put me off the entire cuisine until I was nearly 30.”

“I can’t comprehend it. We’re the oldest state in the country, every county but one saw its school populations decline over the past decade (so we’re not getting any younger), we’re facing a shortage of housing (guess who staffs framing and drywall crews?) and of healthcare workers (four out of four providers I see regularly have a foreign accent), and immigration is a problem? [Expletive] cheering for ICE and CBP while they’re considering dissolving their dying towns.”

“As of this summer immigration was the second-most important issue to Maine voters. Blows my fucking mind. Higher than taxes or housing.”

“They just want another generation of children indoctrinated with bigotry and racism to carry on their miserable, irrelevant existence.”

As you can see, many folks across Maine are passionate about fixing the problems they actually have. Very real, present issues such as higher than ever state taxes and the vast amount of old towns losing population and relevance as time goes on, not Mexican immigrants who do nothing but contribute to the betterment of the places they take up residence.
