So many Americans are struggling to make ends meet and survive. This is especially true during the winter months, when they often have no choice but to pay the heating bills or suffer the most brutal winter. A woman named Ellie was in shock when an oil company deliveryman made her feel guilty for not being able to afford the high heating prices. Now, she’s speaking her truth about the bad interaction she had with a Maine heating oil company.
Ellie (@theovercomerofthecompany) experienced a horror that no parent wants to face: She ran out of heating oil during the winter. She calls her oil delivery company and has the unfortunate experience of speaking with Doug, the cruelest delivery driver. He told her it would be $700 for a delivery and Ellie started to cry, knowing she could barely make ends meet. Ellie told him, “I’ll call around” and Doug rudely demanded, “Call who? Everyone else is going to charge you the same amount. No one delivers for less than that.” Ellie told him she wasn’t mad at him and knows he just works there but that she is poor and can’t afford that.
That’s where things take a dark turn, as Doug had to make her feel as bad as possible about her financial situation. He told her, “Well, I see that the government has paid for your fuel assistance all year long this year. My taxes pay for that.” Ellie tearfully explains that she told Doug she has three kids and struggled with a terrible marriage that left her in this situation. She said Doug proceeded to lecture her until she decided to hang up on him.
Ellie was shocked by how she was treated by this man, especially knowing that she’s blue-collar just like he is. She works as a machinist at an assembly plant, and nothing separates her from a person like him. In an update video, Ellie tries to school Doug on how he could have handled this situation. She also reached out to the company by email to tell them what she experienced. Hopefully, they question their worker about how badly he handled this.
Commenters came together to support Ellie, understanding fully what she’s going through. They left low reviews on the company website as well once they found out where Doug worked. I guess that’s what happens when you’re cruel to another human being. One commenter simply stated, “I WANT MY TAXES TO PAY FOR BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS.” Another said, “Completely valid crash out, formal complaint with the BBB immediately.” Hopefully, Ellie and her family can find peace during these difficult times. So many are going through it.
