Getting locked outside your apartment on a hot day while an ice cream truck sits nearby sounds like a pretty unfortunate afternoon. One Maine woman revealed that it was apparently just the latest addition to a streak of bad luck that also includes being broke, fighting a custody battle, and allegedly having water from an upstairs toilet leaking above her bed.
The woman, who goes by Evening_Internal_591 on Reddit, originally shared her predicament after her sister’s boyfriend accidentally locked the apartment door behind him while she was out walking. Her sister was asleep inside, leaving her stranded outside without an easy way to get her attention.
Then an ice cream truck arrived.
That might normally have been a welcome sight on a hot day. Unfortunately, her wallet was inside the locked apartment.
“MY WALLET IS STUCK INSIDE,” she told Redditors.
Commenters quickly pointed out that she could potentially pay with her phone, but that suggestion uncovered another problem.
“I have Apple Pay. I, however, do not have money in my bank account,” she explained.
When someone asked why, the woman summed up her current situation pretty quickly: “I’m in school, I’m in a custody battle, I’m broke.”
She did have around $200 in cash. Of course, that was locked inside too.
“This is peak mildlyinfuriating,” one commenter wrote.
Another wondered whether she simply stood there sadly watching the ice cream truck from outside her apartment. She admitted she was “on the verge of tears” and considering begging the driver for a free ice cream.
Her Bad Luck Apparently Didn’t Stop at the Front Door
As Redditors reacted to the lockout, the woman revealed that her recent problems went well beyond missing out on ice cream.
“My luck has been disgustingly bad lately,” she wrote.
She then shared a photo showing damage to the ceiling directly above her bed. According to the woman, her landlord told her the leaking water was likely coming from the upstairs apartment’s toilet pipe.
That revelation changed the scale of her unfortunate afternoon considerably.
“Bruh, you must have been cursed by someone recently to get all this,” one Redditor responded.
There is at least one bit of good news. Getting locked outside, being unable to afford ice cream, and allegedly having toilet water leaking over her bed all happened without anyone getting seriously hurt.
Still, if a black cat crosses her path this week, she might want to turn around.
