The new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 trailer is out, and it confirms the return of an old enemy; Makarov. This is one of the ultranationalists that players have recently faced in the Warzone 2 DMZ mode. And many OG Call of Duty fans might be familiar with this threat from the original MW2 and MW3. Now in this new Modern Warfare story, Makarov has returned to threaten the world once more.
Who is Vladimir Makarov in Modern Warfare 3 Trailer
First appeared in 2006 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Vladimir Makarov is a Russian mercenary working with the terrorists to rule over other nations. Makarov is considered to be the protégé of Imran Zakhaev, whom he has worked with in acts of terrorism. However, one thing that makes this character a true villain, is the deadly tactics he uses to maintain control over the situation.
In the end credit scene of the 2022 Modern Warfare 2 campaign, we see him texting a No Russian massage while preparing a pistol to hijack a plane. The “No Russian” is a story mission from the original Modern Warfare 2, and that’s how players got the idea of his return from that massage. However, Makarov is not free in the rebooted Modern Warfare story.
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 trailer shows that this character is in prison. This is while a previous teaser had also showcased that Makarov is an old enemy who was buried alive. Captain Price and his team had him captured before the events of Modern Warfare 2019, hence he knows this threat and what he’s capable of.
But how will Makarov start his rampage against the world in the new Modern Warfare 3 story? All we can do is wait until November 10, 2023, when MW3 releases.
